 ANNUAL CULTURAL FEST  2010

The Annual cultural function was held on 31/10/10 in Arya College, Ludhiana. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Sh. Manish Tewari, Member Parliament.

The Chief Guest lighted the lamp to inaugurate the function. It was followed by the recitation of Bhajan to invoke the blessing of the Almighty. The Principal Dr. T.L. Joshi welcomed the  Chief Guest and other distinguished guests. He also focused on the achievements of the College in various fields especially in the field of cultural activities. He appreciated the efforts of the students and the teachers incharge in bringing laurels to the college in the Panjab University Youth Festival by bagging 29 positions in various activities.

The students presented the various cultural items on the stage. The One Act Play that won the first prize in the Panjab University Zonal Youth Festival was re in acted by the students and it mesmerized the audience. Other items which were presented were Ghazal, Folk Song, Skit, Mimicry, Mime and Group Dance. The students regaled the   audience with their stellar performance. The function was really a cultural bonanza.

On this occasion the Chief Guest, Sh. Manish Tewari highlighted the importance of the cultural activities and exhorted the students take part in these activities as participation in them is a must for the all round development of the personality. He also laid emphasis on the importance of discipline, commitment and positive attitude.

In the end the President of the Arya College managing Committee Sh. Ashok Paruthi , Advocate proposed a vote of thank to the Chief Guest and other dignitaries for gracing the occasion. He also congratulated the students on their outstanding achievement in the field of cultural activities. He also appreciated the efforts put in by the staff both teaching and non teaching  and the students  for making this function a grand success, he also hoped that the College will hold many more such function for development of the students.

The dignitaries present on the occasion were Sh. Prem Bhardwaj, General Secretary, Arya Pratinidhi Sabha, Punjab , Mrs. Rajesh Sharma, Vice President, Arya Pratinidhi Sabha Punjab and Member, Arya College Managing Committee, Mrs. Harjit Kaur, president, SGG Arya Mahilla College, Raekot, Principal Dr. R.L. Behl, Mrs. Satisha Sharma Former Incharge Women Section of Arya College, Ludhiana, Sh. Raju Thapar, Councillor, Sh. Anil Malhotra, Councillor, Sh. Hem Raj Aggarwal, Councillor, MC, Sh. Gurpreet Singh Gogi, Councillor, Mr. Diple Rana, District President Youth Congress, Mrs. Taparia, Distrcit President, Mahilla Congress and retired Professors of Arya College, Ludhiana.

Sh. Manish Tewari, Member Parliament has graciously announced a grant of Rs. 10 Lacs for the College in two consecutive financial year.

Excellent performance by young artists of Arya College in Youth and Heritage Festival of  Panjab University Chandigarh

Students of Arya College came out with flying colours in the Panjab University Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival held at S.C.D. Govt.College Ludhiana from 9th to 12th  Oct, 2010 by bagging 29 prizes in various cultural items. The college won 8 First positions, 9 Second positions and 12 third Positions. By winning these prizes Arya College, Ludhiana became Second highest prize winner of the PU Zonal Youth & Heritage Festival (Zone- A) in which 11 Co-educational Colleges of Ludhiana district participated.


One Act Play named ‘Ik Kudi Zindgi Udeekdi’ staged by the College was adjudged Best Play of the Zonal Youth Festival while Pallvi Saluja bagged the Third Prize in acting. In the same manner college bagged First Position in Group Dance (General), while Richa was awarded the third prize in dancing. In Classical Dance Pallvi Saluja put up a mesmerizing  performance in Kathak and won the First Prize. In Collage Making, Deepanshu made the College proud by getting First Position. Rupali Sharma, Ruchika & Kulwinder Singh bagged the First Prize in Mehandi, Phulkari & Folk Dance respectively.


To-day prize winners of various group and individual  items were honored in the College auditorium. Principal Dr.T.L.Joshi appreciated the efforts of the students and teachers in charge for winning 29 prizes in 37 events in which they participated.  Dr. Joshi also congratulated the winners and Teachers In-Charge of various events and exhorted them to bring more such laurels to the College in future also.


  Sh. Ashok Pruthi Advocate, President, Arya College Managing Committee congratulated Principal Dr.T.L.Joshi, Lady In-charge of Women Section,   Prof. (Mrs) Asha Sharma, Dr. V.B. Sudhir  Dean Co-curricular Activities, Dr. S.P. Singh Joint Dean, Prof. (Mrs) Suksham Walia In-charge CCA (Women Section), Prof. Surinder Khanna and other Teachers-In-charge for their  guidance and efforts in inspiring the students to bring out their best . PRESS CONFERENCE HELD


A press conference was organised in the college where all the winners as well as participants of Youth festival were honoured. Dr. TL JoshiPrincipal Arya College congratulated all the participants as well as the teachers forputting a mesmerizing show in youth -fest-2010. DR. Joshi also told the reporters that this is the finest performance ever in Youth Festival & he is hoping forhe same in future as well. Students were really happy that they got an excellent opportunity to explore themselves  & show their talents. On the whole it proved that Arya College is making a lot of progress in every field.

Brief History of  the College

The advent of Arya College, Ludhiana in 1946 on the educational map of the country was the fulfillment of the long cherished desire of the people of Ludhiana and its surrounding areas. A few dedicated members of Arya Samaj met in 1945 and decided to raise funds to start a degree college to cater to the needs of the young students. Their mission was to keep aloft the torch of knowledge and awakening kindled by Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati. It was due to their untiring efforts that Arya College came into existence in Ludhiana in 1946. It was started in a building known as Malerkotla House. The same building was later used to house the Women Section when it was started in 1970. At present, the College is considered to be a premier post graduate educational institute of higher education of the northern India.
It started a separate Women Section in 1970 for independent studies of girls students in the old campus. Now it has been housed in a spacious building adjacent to the old building of Dayanand Medical College in Civil Lines area. It has arrangements for Arts, Commerce, Computer Science and Home Science faculties.
The College aims at harmonious all-round development of the students in the field of art, literature, science, commerce, computer education, games, sports, co-curricular and youth activities. The College aspired to make them enlightened and responsible citizens of the country, capable of contributing effectively to the realization of national goals.The College provides a healthy and congenial atmosphere necessary for the intellectual, aesthetic, physical and moral growth of the students. It inculcates in them love for the Indian way of life and traditions. It inspires its pupils to respect nobler and higher values of universal brotherhood, renunciation and truthful living, as enunciated by Maharishi Dayananad Saraswati.
AFFILIATION

The College is affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh for Three Year Degree Course in Humanities, Science(Medical & Non-Medical), Commerce & Business Management, Computer Science & Applications, Business Administration and M.A. in Political Science, History, Punjabi, M.Com., M.Sc.(IT) and PGDCA. 
LOCATION AND BUILDING

The College is centrally located in Civil Lines on Maharishi Dayanand Road. The College building is tastefully designed and bears an architectural grandeur. It is spread over about 10 acres tract of land. It has spacious science laboratories equipped with modern apparatus, separate and attractive library block having three reading-rooms and extensive play-grounds for major games. All the lecture rooms are well-furnished and commodious. Water-coolers fitted with aqua-guards provide safe and pure drinking water to staff and students. A high power generator has been installed in the main College and one in the women section for uninterrupted supply of electricity in the class rooms.
The College hall-cum-auditorium has been completely renovated. A scooter shed with a capacity for parking 500 scooters has also been provided to the students. Seminar Room in the P.G. Deptt. Commerce has been fully renovated. Work on Committee Room is in progress. Students` Center will soon be ready  in the main College. Health Center-cum Gymnasium has been set up in the main college.
